Sleepy Hollow Ranch - Featured

The old timers know! They remember the summer park on Sleepy Hollow Road at the end of Miller Road called Sleepy Hollow Ranch. Just ask Ray Heffentrager. Ya know, he rode there standing on the back of a horse and hanging from its side and you can check out the scar on his head where he took 13 stitches.

You might think we're tootin' our own horn when we say it was the "Country and Western Capital of the East Coast". But that ain't far from the truth so help me. Sally Starr was a regular. Ever hear of Roy Rogers? Not country enough? How about Minnie Pearl and Patsy Cline? Gene Autry, Jimmie Dean, Eddie Arnold, Bill Haley and the Comets, Frankie Avalon, the Carter Family. Got yer attention yet? Ever hear the song "Cool Waters" or "Tumblin Tumbleweeds"... cowboy songs that "painted the west with a brush of music"? They were written by Bob Nolan and boy was he swamped by fans when he showed up with the Sons of the Pioneers in 1941.

Geryville

Originally known as Aurora, the village of Geryville got its name from the postmaster Jesse Gery in 1865. The Publick House on the corner of Sleepy Hollow Rd and Geryville Pk played a prominent role in the Fries Rebellion of 1799 helping shape our nation's history.

Steinsburg

All of the roads in Steinsburg were lined with fences in the mid 1800s.

With a tanner, butcher, saddler, harness maker and shoe maker, the residents fenced their properties to protect them from the hooves of cattle that was regularly driven to the businesses.

Finland

Known in the Roaring Twenties as the Poconos of Philadelphia, Finland probably was named as a contraction of "The Fineland". Locals referred to summer vacationers from Philadelphia and Wilmington as "The Fancy People".
